There are farmer's markets popping up all over the place lately and there is no wonder why; organic is in. Green is in and big processing agricultural farms are less trusted. Why? Perhaps, due to the salmonella scares or the e. Coli outbreaks we've had over the years in our food supply. Thus, people feel safer buying locally grown produce, that is grown without chemicals and pesticides or that isn't genetically modified.
Now this produce will not exactly look the same, or taste the same, but it will most likely be better for you, since it was grown by someone who cares and not grown somewhere where the soil has been depleted. Also, there will be less spoilage in shipping and the produce will be picked when it is ripe, not picked prior, and allowed to ripen in route. This is a significant advantage for the eater of the fruits, nuts and vegetables, as the nutrients are much better.
So, the question is how do you market a local community farmer's market? Well, you tell everyone what I just told you above, you show them, invite them down, tell them to try it, they'll like it.
You distribute flyers to local businesses and allow the local businesses near the farmer's market or adjacent parking lots to advertise the days these events will be taking place, so they can join in all the local traffic and synergy of masses of local people flocking to get the world's best produce. That's how we do it here and it works too.
